You wonder why nobody talks anymore about possession,
Why this deathly silence on an unacknowledged obsession,
About this edifice painstakingly built, built by brick,
Ever confident that just another would do the trick.

When you spend every day laying the mortar on, thick,
You can’t stop to realize that this is all too slick,
Maybe you were hoping that you could just will it to stick,
And one day you could admire this wonder so majestic.

Thus you persevered through blazing sun and pouring rain,
Stopping only to eat more sorrow, and drink more pain,
And sleeping only to dream about getting to work again,
No one wondered if you or your edifice bore more strain.

Busy as usual, you fail to notice the warning signs,
Even the rumble and grumble of the torrential rains,
Sure on the belief that it just another hurdle in the day,
It would surely groan and whine and finally just go away.

You were right, it did go away after an exhausting while,
Reluctantly taking along with it every attendant smile,
Leaving only you standing precariously, as king of the rubble,
Forcing you to finally step out of your hand-blown bubble.

And you notice this worthless lout, teeth grinning proud,
Happiness so overflowing, might as well be laughing aloud,
And a satisfaction, that seemed to want to needlessly explain,
When you have nothing to lose, you have everything to gain.

This one is for the Gazebo, being my take on the ratrace of materialistic pursuit that we indulge in, and uses that as the foundation, to build on our ceaseless journey to build our identity. We spend a lifetime building on this identity concept, and give it a fancy name called legacy. So this ends with an optimistic take on Adi Shankaracharya’s Bhaja Govindam

मा कुरु धनजनयौवनगर्वं
हरति निमेषात्कालः सर्वम्

It is also a revisit to the theme presented in Think.
